Some of you might have noticed that we have had some construction works underway in the school grounds, and you may have wondered what has been happening... We are excited to share with you that on Wednesday, 1st March 2017, we had our new Internet connection installed! Over the coming days, we will be finishing our testing and planning, and will move over the school computer network to use this new connection.
Thank you to George (6th Class) who recorded the important preparatory ground work:
Day 1 (off-site, at Church Gate)
Day 2 (on-site works at the back of the school)
The new fibre-powered broadband connection, provided by Virgin Media, is capable of 400Mb/s. To put this in perspective, it is 40 times faster than our current connection! The new service also comes with new telephony capability.
Days 3/4 (a lot of hi-tech activity in our Comms Room)
With the fundraising support by the PTA, our families and friends, and with the support of the school's Board of Management, St. Patrick's National School has an amazing selection of IT facilities including a computer lab of 30+ desktop computers, 60 tablets, interactive whiteboards, projectors, and printers. This new internet connection will allow us to unlock and fully realise the value of this investment. It will have a very real and direct impact on the learning opportunities for our children, not to mention greatly improving the quality of services available to our teaching and support staff.
In recent months, we have mobilised our new ICT Committee, which has brought together an energised, excited, and enthusiastic group of parents and staff, who are already planning how to revitalise and improve the IT services in the school. Congratulations and thank you to our new Committee Chairman, Greg McAvoy, and Committee Secretary, Anabel Hands, for stepping up and volunteering to lead our committee.
This has been a long journey and has taken the combined effort of many people over a number of years to bring to fruition. Thank you to everyone involved for your hard work and passion.
We look forward to keeping you informed of developments as they unfold...
