Acclaimed author E R Murray visited us on February 9th to speak to the pupils of Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Classes.
It is well known that author visits are a great way to promote reading for enjoyment. They also provide an opportunity for the children to learn about the process that goes into the production of a successful book. Both of these points were proved correct on this occasion, as it was a really worthwhile and motivating experience for all as Elizabeth gave a most engaging, and sometimes interactive(!), presentation with the three classes. Class reports/reviews to follow soon...
Children were invited to bring their copies of The Book of Learning and The Book of Shadows for signing by the author and, as you can see, our guest was kept busy...!
We got our School Library copies signed too!
Then it was on to our library, where Ms Murray, Ms Fitzmaurice and Ms Burchell had a good chat...
and met First Class on one of their regular visits...
As for the highlight of the day, the children (and adults) learned so much about the whole process of writing from our visitor, who is currently completing the third book in this super trilogy (the latest draft was in her bag....!).
The Book of Learning (from the Irish publisher, Mercier Press) was the novel chosen for the 2016 Citywide Reading Campaign for children organised by Dublin City Council’s Library Service and it is the first book in the Nine Lives Trilogy.
Part 2, The Book of Shadows, has also been published, and part 3 of the trilogy is due out in 2017.
Our school library have added some copies of The Book of Learning and The Book of Shadows, which are available to borrow.
The blurb on the back of The Book of Learning gives an indication of the theme of these novels...
