Over 21st and 22nd November, the Department of Education and Skills (DES) Inspectorate conducted a Curriculum Evaluation in Music in our school. Three main aspects of the school's provision for Music were evaluated by two visiting inspectors:
- the quality of the pupils' learning in the subject,
- how the school supports pupils' learning in that subject, and
- how the schools plans for that subject.
During the two busy days of the evaluation, both inspectors visited all classrooms, interacted with pupils and examined aspects of their work, led a focus group interview with some senior pupils, engaged with teachers, met with representatives of our PTA Music Committee and reviewed a number of relevant school documents (policies, planning, reports, etc). We were delighted to have this opportunity to show the work being done throughout the school in Music, a subject area that was identified for development in our 2011 - 2016 School Strategic Plan.
The Principal received very positive oral feedback at the end of the evaluation, reflecting the strong engagement with Music in the school. We now look forward to receiving a written report, which will be published on the DES website, as well as here on our own school site, in early 2017.
