Adam Harris, founder and CEO of AsIAm.ie, visited the school last Tuesday during Diversity Week to raise awareness of Autism. Accompanied by Matilda in 6th Class, Adam met the children in our Early Intervention class, An Cuan. He then spoke to both Senior Infants and First Classes, followed by a presentation to 2nd to 6th Classes.
Adam, a past pupil of St Patrick's - whose former SNA, Jennifer, is still with us - spoke about how his Autism diagnosis helped him to understand how he might see the world differently. Both pupils and staff alike were riveted as he told us about how 1 in 27 children are on the spectrum, dispelled many myths, outlined Autistic strengths and answered numerous insightful questions.
His message was clear - be kind, be inclusive, be understanding, be supportive. Autism is just another way we might differ from each other, but underneath we have more in common than you might think. Thank you Adam, you're inspirational!
Please find Adam's presentation to 2nd-6th Class below as well as some additional material that AsIAm shared with us.
